continue to use table-less desing?

so I know this is pretty much something that needs not be said, but table-less designhas some drawbacks, such as people with lower resolution are getting smooshed screens onm my webpage. I was all onboard with the notion of people upgrading their machines to be able to view newer more well designed websites, but I'm wondering if this is actually a good idea! Is my site done poorly? Should it not be so felxable? I was thinking of making a sperate tables part... maybe jsut redoing it all! Any ideas or suggestions? my site is www.passedtime.com thanks

Websites should be built to a minimum width of around 770px (to cater for the large amount of users still on 800x600px resolution) (obviously you can go smaller if you want). Fluid layout is one that shrinks and grows, depending on the width of the users browser.

Tables-less design (I assume you mean using CSS instead of <table>) doesn't make any difference in width for users on low res. and is still possible to make fluid, so I'm not sure what your issue is? Are you having troubles making a fluid design with CSS?

Here's a brand-spanking new article on building fluid setups, from the brilliant Russ Weakley @ MaxDesign http://www.maxdesign.com.au/presentation/liquid/

well it is fluid... it does shrink and grow... by table-less I meant using <div> with css yes, such as floating them and such... it probably isn't as bad as I made it out to be haha. I just didn't want it to drop some things down and stuff, move around the design when resolution can't handle it. I will look at the article, thanks for the response and help.

Thanks for the link to the maxdesign site - I'll file it away for future reference. Always nice to find CSS templates that work.

BTW, re: maxdesign: great presentation, clean layout, easy palette, spare use of images, great logo - these guys are near perfect. Good stuff!

For those starting out building table-less design, here's a great little tutorial that Russ presented at the recent WSG meeting - http://www.maxdesign.com.au/presentation/process/
