Embedded UN/PW CSS? Java?

I've got a website on a local intranet, I've got images linked that you need a UN/PW to view. I tryed the <img src="http://unw@www.alksdfj.com> and that just doesn't work. I've been searching for this answer for a bit and can't fathom the conclusion. I don't want to just post the un/pw on the site even though that is an option, and I would rather not do a pop up to say here's the un/pw. I was thinking maybe I could put it in a css file and just have it load the un/pw before it loaded the image. The images update daily, so it asks you for the un/pw every morning and I'm just trying to get around that. Any idea's suggestions would be great. Thanks

Why do you need a username and password?
Is it possible to eliminate that altogether?

Otherwise, are you using a scripting language, perhaps you can somehow pass the authentication in there.

Because its 'confidential' data from an outside vendor, that I'm trying to display on our intranet so our users don't have to go to all of the individual sites. There are like 5 sites, and I've created a page to combine all of the images. So the answer is yes the un/pw must be entered for the image to be displayed.

That's what I'm trying to determine if there is a way to pass the authentication with any type of scripting, be it java, action, css...

Thanks

How do the vendors secure their stuff?

If it were simple apache/http authentication I assume you could use the username:password method as you've tried... based on the fact that you've tried this and failed, they must use some type of front-end login system, which is much harder to bypass.

Your best bet may be to ask them for some type of web service that provides the images to you. You can authenticate with SOAP or RPC or REST or some type of method like that.

Anything else might void your agreement with them.
