.htaccess redirect from non-www to www with query string

Hello. I'm having trouble getting this to work. My current .htaccess file looks like this:

Code:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\. [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.%{HTTP_HOST}/$1 [R=301,L]

That works fine for the base site, but if there is anything after that, it goes to "This site cannot be reached." For example "metroelectricsupply.com" redirects to "www.metroelectricsupply.com", but "metroelectricsupply.com/index.php" doesn't work.

A really odd behavior that i'm not understanding is really confusing me is that ONE query string works while the rest do not.

metroelectricsupply.com/?display=welcome redirects to www just fine.

Any other query string fails to redirect.

I also tried the above .htaccess code but with the domain hard coded with the same result. Any advice you can offer would be appreciated. Thanks!

You can read out the articles or blogs related to this. The code that you need to implement depends upon the platform you are using. It also depends upon your existing htaccess rules. However you need to make sure that very less redirections (1 or 2 only) are implemented on a particular url.
Generally 301 is implemented when you are changing the domain name.

try this code mate obviously change the i use this in my ht access and im not encountering any of the issues you mentioned. It could be a host specific issue aswell :

The .co.za would be .com ect

RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^example\.co\.za$
RewriteRule ^/?$ "http\:\/\/www\.example\.co\.za\/" [R=301,L]
