search engine
i wish to insert a search engine into my site, I would rather use a local engine for maximum control, does anyone have any recommendations for a free search engine, preferably written in Java, although the language doesn't matter that much

MySQL (http://www.mysql.com/) has full-text search capability. It is open source and can be downloaded free of charge. Have a look. However, I am not sure whether this is what you are looking for.
