A Starting Point
I have a fair amount of experience with Visual Basic (currently using VB 6.0 Pro) but zero experience with web applications. So I am looking for a starting point to learn the fascinating world of Internet applications.
My ultimate goal is to write an interactive, real-time, multi-user online word game in Visual Basic. I realize that goal is light years over my head now, but I am retired, disabled, and therefore have plenty of time and patience. I would greatly appreciate any help the pros here could offer in terms of tutorials, books, VB tools, software, or anything else to get me pointed in the right direction. I've read a bit about Winsocket, and it seems like it may be one way to go. Please forgive my obvious ignorance of a subject in which I am discussing on a public forum. KC |

I've just started learning .NET technologies myself... I have a decent background in web applications and I've had experience with VB5 & VB6...
From the sounds of your ultimate goal, I think .NET technologies would help you out a lot... they're heavily based on XML, and sending information across networks is simple using SOAP or XML-RPC... As I've said before in these forums, the best starting point is with pen and paper... layout the fl ow your program... should be a fun project overall, most definately an excellent learning experience |
