The article on pinging was very informative, however when I used it, it will ping friendly names (internet or intranet) but not IP addresses. Entering an IP returns 'Host Not Found'. This routine uses a SQL extended stored procedure to make the command shell call. I need to use it to ping approximately 80 router locations on our network, which obviously do not have friendly names =)
Thank you for any help you may have. |

Hmmm. It may be something to do with your DNS server. Can you ping normally from the command line or does that not work either?

Thanks for your reply. Yes, pinging from the command line works. Additionally, I wrote a cgi routine that pings properly, however I really need an asp solution. Is there a possibility that it is a webserver issue? I am a programmer, not a network engineer =) We have a Win 2000 Enterprise network / IIS 5.
Thank you. |

Hmmm. It sounds like a service pack issue. Have you got the latest service pack? If worst comes to worst, try downloading another DOS pased ping program and calling that thru xp_cmdshell. It may be just ping.exe playing up.
