Question help with javascript?

Hi people
I am busy with a new site at the moment. The URL is http://www.george.co.za/temp/nb/home.htm for those who want to see what I am talking about.

If you mouse over the menu at the top, you will see I have a "rollover" effect of sorts going. The problem with the effect I am using is, it mainly makes use of CSS and layers and very little javascript.
As a result, almost none of the netscape browsers support this.

What i want to know is, is there another way to do this, without having to create lots of images (I need the descriptive text to be dynamic and dont want to have to create new images each time).

Most javascripts I can find deal only with mouse over effects for images, but none combining images and text.

Can anybody help with this please? I would like my site towork on as many browsers as possible

ok here is what I think.. I hope it will work with u...
u got a cell there where the image and the text must appear right?
set the background for this cell as the image of the background of all the text that must appear over it
so it will only disapear when the mouse is away and the image with the bird appear over it
and the text will normally appear over it...
u get what I mean???
I hope it will help u
Noor
