.NET a must learn now ?
Hi everyone , first time here so sorry if its a worn out question.
Is asp.NET something everyone will use sooner or later, or is it a choice you can make ? I've started out sometime ago learning asp, and getting the hang of it now ,then i start to read about .NET and C# and started thinking about if i wasted time learning asp , with VB and java as script language what do you people use ? |

I still use classic ASP, but it depends on what you prefer. It's just like the whole HTML vs. XHTML issue; XHTML might become a replacement for HTML, but HTML will stick around for a couple of years, so it's ok to use it.
I'd say: just go with what you prefer. |

This has been on my mind a lot lately! Microsoft has a nasty habit of stopping support of old products in a hurry to force you onto new ones. Personally I think ASP will be around for a long time is some form or another but I think it will be marginalized relatively quickly (maybe becoming like Perl is in comparison to PHP).
I just had to rewrite a .NET application in ASP because the .NET application kept dying in production. I was so excited when the framework came out but after writing a couple buggy programs in it, I'm souring quickly. .NET seems like a good choice if you're in a totally gung-ho Microsoft shop but my office is so-so about it. I started with ASP because I think SQL Server rocks. I don't want to switch to PHP because I think MySQL is a sorry substitute. I was thinking of switching to JSP and Java on a Linux box and still connecting to a Windows SQL Server, but I'm not sure. I would love to hear other people's thoughts on this!
