VB code to execute SQL statment

I am a self taught programmer. I have a really solid understanding of SQL coding for data manipulation and viewing. I also have a really good understanding of Visual Basic for Excel. My latest journey is trying to use Visual Basic 2005 Express with SQL Server 2005 Express to see if I can get them to communicate with each other.

I have tried hundreds of different codings to get the connection and to return one value. Would you send me an example of one that works and how to use it? FYI - I do not understand much computer lingo. Here is the information I think I know...

Database Name:
CKRegister

Path where my DB sits (I think, I used VB to create it as I thought it would be easier to access):
C:\Documents and Settings\David.grenier\My Documents\Visual Studio 2005\Projects\CKRegister\CKRegister.mdf

SQL Command to execute:
SELECT [Button ID] FROM [Product Information] WHERE [Button ID] = '1B'
- I would like to make the '1B' a variable as well

Button1.Text = The result of the SQL here

No passwords; No network connections

Thanks,
David Grenier, CMA EA

Something similar

Hey I'm working on something similar. Let me ask you this, where did you find information about using visual basic to add/modify/delete entries in a sql database? I'm trying to have like:

New Patient:
Name
SSN
Address
Phone
Level of Care...

something like that, have it write to a table or something. Can someone point me in the right direction please? I've searched the forums already but nothing I found useful. I'm just learning SQL but have a pretty solid understanding of Visual Basic. I've made a few programs for my high school and vocational school. Any information you guys can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.
