I read up on the code for the WYSIWYG editor. I just can't figure out how to get the form value for the text from the iframe. Can someone help me or point me to a site that uses this?

Can't help you with this particullary question, but I would instead say:

Go for HTMLArea (free, open source, lot's of add on's.) Uses a textarea instead of iframe.
