Help w/ Time Input

Well I need some help on my program basically because I don't know how to start. Our instructor never mentioned how to implement time in C++ at all and for my program I will need help please.

What I need to do is get the user to input the time they were born. And then I need to convert that time into GMT. I have looked everywhere but all the time_t functions I see give excess info than just the time and I find it hard to convert that time to GMT with time zone and DST differentiations.

I really don't know how to begin and am a novice, I would appreciate some help.

Well it might be useful to go over some of the basics of using time functions. Go over some of this stuff then try something with that.
