Please Help - Major Project!

Hey all, I wish to create a program for me and my band to stay in contact as i live a bit away from the rest of the members and also to be able to jam together at the same time. Ill go through stepbystep what I wish to create.

A text chat, so we can all chat at once. Think of it like when you invite other users into a multiuser chat on msn, I would like that in there.

Audio capabilities so everyones microphone will operate at once so we (5 members can jam on our instruments together) also a record function so as were jamming we can record it, or perhaps jsut the host of the program, that everyone connects to. That may be easier but if everyones doing it, it may be better cuz then if we do something amazing we can all review it afterwards then chat about it.

A spectral analyser specific colour to each user, this is jsut a fancy extra I would like in there lol. So it comes up under the user in there colour for the sound there outputting then I would like one with all of them combined so we can see it pieced together.

Design wise im going to create the front of the program in basic but I wish to program the aactual mechanics of the program in C++ as i dont believe basic could do it as well or at all lol.

Any help, code, or comments people could offer, I would be majorly grateful. This is a huge project and important to me and the band. Anything would be grateful. BTW as always all people who help no matter how big or small the help is, will get a mention in the program and recieve a copy of it for themselves when ive finished it! Also we make it big you dudes will be the first to recieve VIP Invites to our first major gig!

or are you more going for the joy of creating your own application?

Just read the part about playing instruments together...
I can't imagine how you'd keep that in sync! Especially with various bandwidth issues...
Reminds me of a DSL commercial we used to have up here.

I've heard most bands in the past record their stuff on their own (in protools or logic i assume) and pass the files back and forth... Chris Vrenna's latest album had guest singers whom he had never met in person [for the purpose of the album at least].

The audio quality this way [passing the project around] would be far superior to that of a streaming feed...

Also in reply to MadCow, yes, MSN would be perfectly ideal except you cant have multiple audio streams through and yes you are right, i do want the joy of creating my own program. Also I live a few miles from the rest of the band members, they all live in the same village, im like 3 villages away, and its inconvinient to get back and forth and i would love to be down there all the time but i cant be. Thats why this program would connect me to the rest of the band and then we can all practice and play instruments at the same time perfectly. plus on the streaming thing, my plan was to simply have everyone uploading there stream to a server and then the server broadcasting it back so instead of sending out 1 stream and recieving 4-5 back, it will be just a case of one outgoing and one incoming.
