CFPOP know How

I am looking to create an opt-in newsletter application. I know there are many out there that I can buy, but because I am limited on funds and really want to learn, I am choosing not to go that route. The real purpose in this project is simply to learn by building a great application from the ground up.

Ok, so what I am looking for are some resources or help in figuring out how I can deal with bouncebacks for no longer existing emails. The application will have an email verification process, but if someone deletes that email or leaves the company, I want to be able to automatically remove the email when it is bounced back.

What I will really be doing is deleting the email on the 3rd hard bounce.

I saw an extension in the exchange that describes itself as using cfpop to deal with these items, but I am not sure how it would do this.

So - Any ideas? I really do hope that this type of application module will help me get a greater understanding of CF and it's uses.
