Question Database Development

Hello,

I'm new to the forums and also in creating databases.

So as i am learning,
I am making some sort of database for a webshop that contains products.
each product is in a section (or a head category) that is divided by categories and those categories have 1 or more sub categories.

so for example:
  • Sport (=section)
    • Outdoor (=category)
      • water(=sub category)
        • Fishing(=sub sub category)
        • sailing
        • other
      • biking
      • ...
    • indoor
    • ...
  • Other stuff
  • ....

so I was thinking of instead of creating a new table for every sub category
to re go to category and put the subcategory in that table as wel
so I only would have 3 tables instead of depending on the subcategory's
  • Section
  • category
  • product

but I don't really know how to create this.
could someone help me or give a link to where i can find a solution?
also are there any books/websites that you can suggest about developing databases?

thx

Hi,

First you got to figure out what database you want to use, and study it,for example mysql for example and you can use also a GUI tool to interact with the database, it's easier to interact with it in a graphical layout (create PK,FK,Columns,Table,Visual Queries....etc (i'm using DbSchema).
