Learn today what you need to get started with Visual C#.NET. We'll be taking
a look at the .NET Platform, the .NET Framework, as well as a quick look at
Visual Studio.NET. We'll also take a brief look at the history of programming

Too much credits for MS...

On page 3 of the article there are some interesting statements:

Quote:
Before Microsoft.NET all these services were simply a dream, and did not exist as there were no platforms that were capable of dealing with these types of services.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but this doesn't sound right to me. Sun's java platform offered the kind of services that you describe quite some time before MS came up with .NET. I also used VB 5 and 6 to create SOAP webservice clients and servers, long before .NET was released.

Also vendors used various techniques for describing their information, and developing the code necessary to integrate such services was a very complex process.

The technique that made this kind of services possible (and easy) is XML. Do you claim Microsoft invented XML?

Maybe you (the author of the article) should get your facts strait.

Iwan

PS. This is not ment to be some Anti-MS flamebait post, so please don't kill me
