Article Discussion: XML Basics
Do you cringe when you hear the words \"XML\"? Are you just not sure what the heck this acronym is all about? Not to worry! In this article Liviu introduces us to XML the various ways it can be created and parsed as well as a brief introduction to XML and the way it came to be.

If the intention here was to ease "the timid brown fox jump over the first XML hurdle" I would say OK. Although the article says "DTD and Schema" it stops at DTD, editorial cut maybe?!
Not so sure what the intentions are (as how many articles would follow) - hopefully there is a plan to dive deeper into XML. |

Comments to Author:
Author writes: 01. In this article we’re going to have a look at the whole XML phenomenon – the data exchange factor, well formed XML, validating and parsing an XML document, DOM, SAX and a few others acronyms that have started floating around since the “birth” of XML. QUESTION: Where in the article you have discussed about DOM and SAX ? AUTHOR WRITES: 02. You might have a chance – according to the Gaussian distribution of probability, but that is in theory! QUESTION: "If you have enough monkeys, banging randomly on typewriters, they will eventually type the works, of William Shakespeare." To make above simulation, or to relate XML with it, YOU HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH GAUSSIAN THEORY or Normal distribution. Be focued on your topics. So please be sure before writing, what knowledge you are giving to us! Moreover, this example/context is quite unnecessary and verbose. you may ponder by visiting this link: http://user.tninet.se/~ecf599g/aard...onkey/webpages/ Comments: Most of the time author "changes his writing horse in mid-stream". Author Successfully Intimidates readers by his article Better XML tutorial you can find here: www.w3schools.com/xml/default.asp |

Besides the article not being complete (DOM? SAX? Schemas? XSL? Xpath?), you mixed up the definitions of 'valid' and 'well-formed'; You say that a xml document is valid when it follows the xml markup rules concerning constructing tags etc., and it's well-formed when it also adheres to a DTD or XML schema. However, this should be the other way around!
Another point of criticism would be that there are many 'xml basics' tutorials available already, even on this site and it's sistersite devshed. This tutorial does not add anything new. |
