First you need to purchase Macromedia Flash MX at www.macromedia.com . You need general knowledge of html, and thats it. Go to the book store and purchase you book thats called Flash MX and then your off. Check other example sites and try to emulate some of the effects to start. Never copy anothers web site. Just do it to see if you can, and then throw it away after.

Smile

Basicly this is right.
What you should do, more than on other software, do the trainings in the manual.
And go to a site like flash-db, where you find tutorials and links to other sites.
Depending on your experience with other developing programs, you might have different questions and problems.
If you thought of ways and cannot solve the problem, ask a forum like this.
But please, do us all a favor, start thinking first

Flash is fun - and it is a serious development platform.

I have the same problems, I do have a copy of Flash MX yet I do not use it because I do not have a clue how to. I can actually use the program and have made some extremely basic movies (some dodgy voice input!). I have always wanted to make my own flash site but it is too hard for me, plus im learning PHP at the moment and want to take it one thign at a time.

Flash is probaly quite easy to learn, actionscript however is the harder part. Try www.flash-kit.com they hve some good content even thogh the site looks sht.

Learning curve

Hi there,
it verymuch depends where you comming from when you start learning Flash.

If you dont know much about programming, action script is a hard one, because it is programming.

In you should go the design things first. get used to the objects on stage and do soma small things out of tutorials.

IMPORTANT: Try to understand the tutorial. Retyping and running does not realy help.

Use the Forums: flash-db, flash-kit.com and this one (there are more)

Learn a serverbased language. To do the Internet tutorials, you need access to an internet server. Either you have an ISP or you run your own server in house.

If you start with PHP, you'll find that it is very familiar with ActionScript. And if you understood a Object Model, it will come a lot easyer.

Thumbs up

thanks.. I know the basics of flash already tweening etc.. but all the advanced stuff i'll have to read up on. And I guess graphics can be another issue with flash. No good graphics and your flash looks like garbage. I need to learn how to do the motion graphics. I just want to be able to create Intros.
