jpeg movie with flash 5
hi. i am very new to flash 5. i want to create a movie of my stream of jpegs moving across the screen left to right, or right to left. an example of what i am trying to create is this:
http://www.csuchico.edu/athletics/ i have cropped all my images to be the same height in photoshop. is there any easy way to animate it like this? is there a maximum size the pictures can be? my pictures don't look that large in internet explorer, but when i import them to flash, the pictures take up more space than the stage provides. the height is only 400 pixels, i didn't think it was that large. does anyone have any suggestions? thanks. |

Quick question...
Are you looking to "loop" the image - or to use it as a navigator and have the image scroll with mouse actions?
I can assist either way - |

i am not sure as to what you mean to be used as a navigator and scroll with mouse actions. i was just trying to emulate the movie "looping" across the screen like that chico site. but if there are fancier trims you can do it, that would be nice to know as well.

some things to try...
There are a few ways to do this - but one of the easiest ways would be:
1) make your image in Photoshop or other editor - the image should be the height you want and long - maybe 10 images or so - you can connect them together with the imaging program you use - and save as a jpg or gif. 2) go into Flash and make a new movie with the height and width you want - say 25 high and 600 wide - don't worry if the image you made earlier is much wider than the stage - that's how we are going to get the scroll in to the picture - 3) make a few layers in the flash movie - call the bottom one (back one) "slider" then the one above that call "logo" and one above that called "front" - with me so far? 4) import the long picture into flash - and select from the library to put on the layer "slider". I assume you know how to make it into a symbol - go ahead and do that, because we are going to make it "motion tween" across the stage. take the image (now a symbol) and drag it all the way to the right - so the left edge of the image is at the right edge of the flash stage - dont worry about it hanging out of view - that's kind of the idea. 5) It will look like your sample if you use some sort of logo, image or text to "cover " the sliding image - and have it go behind - place your logo on the "logo" layer on the left side of the stage - and make another image (small box, another logo or something) to put on the right side (still on the logo layer) - follow mw so far? - we now have two layers - the sliding iimage in the back - and two logo images in front of the slider - 6) Do you know how to make a motion tween? Now is the time to tween the long image - make a Keyframe and select the slider symbol - now go to the timeline and make another keyframe on say 200 - and slide your long image to the left edge of the stage. now tween the symbol. You should be able to go on the timeline now and drag the marker to the right and left - see your image "slide"? 7) [note] For all the Flash programmers - I know there are 100 better ways to do this - but I'm trying to keep it as basic as possible [end note]. 8) This is your "flash movie - the last thing you need to do is "loop" it at the end - on your last "keyframe" toss in this code in the "actions" area for the frame gotoAndPlay(1); That tells Flash to "hey - go back to frame 1 and play again - 9) you can adjust your speed by dragging the keyframe on #200 to the right or left - you can also change the speed by slowing the framerate on your movie. Winded - but I hope this helps - you are more than welcome to send a zipped version of your file to me at URL and I can take a look and help if possible. Cheers |

ok thanks for the reply. what is "front" layer used for? i have it semi-working. on this page:
http://www.csuchico.edu/athletics/cc/index.html they have their pics fade in. so i used the alpha option and made another key frame to make the pic fade in. the problems are, when the movie window reaches the end of the group of jpegs, the big jpeg goes all the way through to the lefthand side, and then the big jpeg that is set to loop, will fade in and start again from the righthand side. so obviously i do not want a break in my movie strip. i want it to repeat, or wrap around so that at the end of the first movie strip, the same movie strip is starting again without any whitespace. and also, that the movie doesn't fade in again. does anyone have any advice? thanks. |
