GENERAL PURPOSE:

Creates innovative and engaging online courses employing SPL’s Effective eLearning Model design criteria. Incorporates HTML files, images, and other digital media. Employs web design best practices toward the development of online content. Designs and develops multimedia content and applications for online courses using HTML, JavaScript Flash and Action Script. Works with Subject Matter Experts and Course Developers to design and develop effective custom multimedia content and applications. May act as lead on course development or multimedia projects. Occasional weekend or holiday work may be required.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Course Development - Converts content from electronic form and inputs into online courses on the SPL e-learning platforms. Maintains and updates course related web links and web pages.

Multimedia Development - Designs and develops multimedia content and applications for online courses using HTML, JavaScript, Flash and Action Script. Coordinates with client subject matter experts and other course developers to design and develop effective multimedia content. Designs and develop multimedia content and applications using Photoshop, and/or audio/video editing software. Design and develop multimedia content and applications using Macromedia Director, Freehand, and 3-D applications.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree (prefer: graphic design, web design, instructional design, or related field) is required; or equivalent educational units with at least two years experience developing rich, multimedia content and web pages.

Experience:

At least two years experience developing web pages in a corporate, educational, or freelance environment. Must be able to read and hand-code HTML. Two years experience with Dreamweaver, Flash, and Actionscript required. At least three years experience using raster and vector photo illustration and editing software (such as Photoshop and Freehand).

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Must be able to read and hand-code HTML. Intermediate knowledge of Dreamweaver is required; intermediate to advanced knowledge of Flash and Actionscript required.

DECISION MAKING:

Makes independent and collaborative decisions on original designs. May make project plans and set project timelines in coordination with client services team. May travel to client sites independently or accompanied by director or assistant director of client services. Must be able to advise clients and SPL’s client services team members on e-learning projects.


We are located in La Jolla, CA and the work would be on-site. Perspective candidates should have Intermediate-Advanced Flash skills.
