Username TextBox Variable Not Working

I bought a flash template and I'm trying to edit it.

I am trying to configure simple authentication on a username / password box and I am having a hard time getting the variable to work.

I have clicked on the username box and set variable to value: user_name.

When I do a trace(username); I get back undefined.

Can someone help me? What I missing?

On the contact page, the template came with preset variable values and they work when I do a trace. Do I have to do something other than set the variable value in the properties section of the textbox?

I appreciate your help.

perhaps trace (user_name); ??
