a curious question
I've looked through the source of PHPBB, a forum system, and I was wondering why they encode IP's? Does it increase secruity?

as an educated guess i would say it would be for security reasons. Although i havent looked at the source myself, i would say it makes it alot harder for hacks to crack into there forum software??

My guess is as good as yours... Maybe to prevent IP Spoofing?!

probably to..
make sure if someone gets into their db maliciously they can't get anything useful from the IPs.
