Why not just use apache? To get any really useful help, you should probably start by posting your server specs. Is Xitami a Windows only Web server (I had only used it on Windows) or is there a *nix version?

Thanks for your reply, I have not tried apache reason being that I don't really want to spend that much time learning web servers do and don'ts, my main focus is websites I designs for a few people most of them either ask for a guest book or a chat room, I basically needs the server to test my designs Xitami I found easy to install and operate and it handles php like a dream but as you may or may not know with guest books and the like one of the files need to be I think executable, this I believe can only be done via one of the upload programs I am using cute ftp but it says change mod not implemented, I read the documentations and it suggested that the problem was with the implementation of it with the server hence the question.
visit one of my sites the owner has not looked after it very well but its all in php. URL |

Try downloading WS_FTP. I'm pretty sure it supports chmod. I'm not sure how you set execute permissions on a Windows box, but I'll bet WS_FTP handles it with no problem.

Chmod
Thanks again dhuston will try that but i am sure that the problem is that the web server won't allow it.

Chmodding is something that happens independently of the Web server, so I'm not sure what you mean about Xitami not allowing it. If you chmod the file, Xitami should see the mode and act accordingly. Not sure where to get WS_FTP. Try tucows or just google for "download WS_FTP."

All i know is that on many windows based webservers you cannot chmod files. it is done automatically. As for webservers i would recommend that you get Apache 2.0*** because it is a very stable webserver and if you send me your paths e.g. Path to root dir i will send you a configuration file for your system so you do not have to spend ages configuring it! ![]() Tom |
