Killing Sessions in EXPLORER, how do I do that?

As we all know the handy thing about SESSIONS is that they are automaticlly destroyed when you close your browser. So If I view my site, which uses SESSIONS, with netscape, and then close the browser, the SESSIONS are destroyed. But here comes the problem: This does not happen when I view my site with Internet Explorer. If I close the browser, and open a new one and visit my site again at localhost.... then I can see that the sessions are still alive. I dont want it to be so. Does anyone know some php-code or whatever that fixs this problem?

I found the answer by myself :-)

header("Cache-control: private");

Put that in the beginning of every php-file. And I mean in the beginnning of the file!!!!! Maybe after session_start(); if thats necessary.

I found the answer bymyself, so hahaha to you

Nope... I was wrong :-(

I was wrong, Ben. My fancy idea about putting

header("Cache-control: private");

in the beginning of every php-file doesnt work. Dont know why I thaught it worked for a while.... I have to keep on searching.

Closing all browsers did not help. Even If it did help, It shouldnt be necessary to do so much just to destroy some sessions on a site. There must be an easier way!!!!!!!!!

One thing is strange though.... If I go into the Task Manager and close the process thats called explorer, and restart it, then the SESSIONS will be destroyed ^_^

Would aprriciate all help

i use IE 5.5, and all the sessions are destroyed when i close the browser. so i have no problems with it.

maybe you should try doing a few test runs on your script using different computers?

One browser-window...... or all browsers?

Arrowhead.... big thx for your replay.......

Do you only need to close the broswer-window which is dealing with the sessions.... or do you have to close ALL of your IE-browser-windows?

I read not long ago in some tutorial on sessions that there was bug in IE6 that caused this. The author of the article said that using

header("Cache-control: private");

would fix it, but it sounds like at least one person has had some experience that would indicate otherwise.

Anyway, I mostly am just curious as to whether those who are having this problem are all using IE6 or whether it goes back farther.

Im using 6.... and Im starting to think that is the problem. As you can see in my FIRST reply in this thread.... I also thought that the header()-code that you wrote should fix it. But it didnt....

The strange thing is that I thought it was fixed for a minute when I tried the header-code..... dunno why...

Thx for your reply

ab3D,

From my own experiences... In order for the session to be destroyed, you need to close ALL of your IE windows... Not just the window in which your session was created.

Hope that helps...
