Need Info on finding a good news script
Hey all,
I have a friend open up a magazine website and he wants a news script in php. BAsically something like this http://www.iraqwar.ru (newswire section -english part ) that shows headlines and on the other page full news article with possiblity to add comments. I saw tikiwiki out there but it has a whole lot of things that might not even be needed. So please advise. thanks

From the little bit of time I spent playing with it I found it to be pretty customizable. Basically it can do whatever you want it to do. The CMS part is the guts of the operation, then the layout can be whatever you want it to be.

I have found that tikiwiki runs very slow. This is not from my own experience so unfortunately. I browsed the forum posts and found a lot of users complaining about the speed of tikiwiki. I actually was very close to joining their dev team, however, I changed my mind after browsing the tikiwiki site and getting frustrated with speed. I may end up changing my mind again if I get a little more free time as I would love to try to figure out what the application's problem is.
Maybe you can join them and find out... ![]() Hope you find the app that works for you. |

Thats a big one... I wish you the best of luck buddy.
Let me know if there is something I can help you with along the way. I'm writing a very comprehensive permission class for the project I'm on... if you want to use it and get that part of it out of the way quick feel free to contact me. Unfortunately I won't finish it until the middle or end of this week. |

This friend of mine is still leaning towards tikiwiki even after telling him thats its slow and stuff. i'll probably have to install it for him since he is paying for install.
is it customizable alot ? because he wants me to design the main page and the article page too.. i hope it is.. will play around with it tonight |

My friend is still stuck with tiki, i played around with it on a shared hosting server online but it did not work very well. or get installed very nicely. I told him more options like a portal based on vbulletin but since their competitor uses tiki (with ib forums), they need to use the same too.... dang i dont even like this
anyway coming back to my own site.. i would like some suggestions on a script that does a good job for a tutorial based site.. i plan to have some tutorials regarding designing n stuff. any idea of a simple yet effective script that is customizable ? Also is there any photo gallery script that can be customized to show one latest photo on the main page ? thanks guys |

I haven't found any good scripts for either of the functions you requested.
I'd be likely to develop something like that from scratch. |
