Need Recommendation For Server Logging And Accesses Program
::Question:: I have a small news web site. The web site is starting to get visitors. Today we have received about thirty or forty visitors. We're expecting to have over (100) visitors per day average soon. I need a good program to track visitors' clicks, count visitors, register their I.P. address, etc. There are a number of programs on the PHP Resource Index web site and also at the SourceForge.net web site that keep track of visitors and report visitor activity. My question is this: Does anyone know or can anyone make a recommendation which one or two of the many programs are the best for visitor logging? The program needs to be written in PHP. My hosting is a shared hosting that does not work with Perl. Thank you in advance. Volitics |

Hotscripts has quit a few tracking scripts.
To bad your host doesn't support PERL, AWStats is one of the best tracking programs on the market and free to use. You might be the first person I have encountered that has PHP and not PERL installed on the server...

Thanks, Joe!
Joe, Thank you for your response. I have a Yahoo! dot com hosting. It's one of their shared hosting packages. One of the primary reasons I have the hosting is that Yahoo! dot com has news feeds from the Associated Press, Reuters, and National Public Radio. I have the feeds included on my web site. The news feeds update automatically during the day. The Yahoo! dot com hosting also has a few other limitations. The news feeds will not work on pages with the ".php" suffix. They do it that way I think so that customers cannot take the news feeds from their hosting sites and put them on other sites. They also have the permissions locked on the files within the hostings - the "chmode" function on the FTP program won't change the permissions. Other than that it's a great hosting. I'm pleased with it. I purchased the MailWorks Pro from DevScripts a few weeks ago. Ben Rowe responded to an email before I bought the program and said that it would not work on the Yahoo! dot com hosting. I went ahead and purchased it anyway and it works fine. I'm pleased with it, too! Thank you again for your response. I'll check out the programs on the Hotscripts web site. Best Regards; H. Pete Norris ref. "Volitics" |
