Visual Basic Help Please

I'm creating a program in Visual Basic which simulates a microwave.

I struggle quite a bit with programming and was wondering if anyone could give me a bit of advice with this. To represent the microwaves turntable/plate, I have simply used 8 "lines" to represent the motion. I have made all 8 lines visible, and would like to make it so that each line changes to a different colour to represent where the turntable/plate is.

I also need to make it so it can go both clockwise and anti-clockwise. Needs to be in order and random as well, so like from 1,2,3,4,5,4,3,2,3,4,5,6,7.

Anyone able to offer me some advice? Find it hard to get my head round this stuff so I would really appreciate it.

Thanks.
