Mine were Python, perl and PHP. I don't really have much expericance with the others (I've only used Java, C and C++ for a few little things), definatly not enough to consider them my favourates. Ruby seem's very interesting, surposidly the best featured of several languages all roled into one. Whether this is done well remains to be seen but since it has a little Python in the mix i'll give it a go!

Mark.

Java, C/C++ - then PERL and PHP for webdevelopment is what I chose. Forgot to check off other as Delphi and Kylix is two others on my list.

PHP, it's the only one I know. I would like to learn C++ though

I've done app development in PHP, perl, and Python, and I'm comfortable with the languages in that order. For quick and dirty shell scripts, I usually go with perl, and for Web stuff I go PHP. Python rocks too, though, and if you use it for Web development, you should check out a toolkit named Albatross, which can be found at http://www.object-craft.com.au. It allows you to separate design from programming and enables really rapid development with versatility (you can extend it) and pretty darned good scalability.

Looked at albatros, it's pretty interesting but I prefer Zope for Python web development of Spyce for the PHP aproch. I wrote my own small Python web scripting language last year but it has a few (one or two) bugs I havn't fixed yet. Looked like ASP and JSP though..

<% var='value' %>
<%
print 'this is var: '
print value
%>

If I fixed the bugs I think it mightt actually get used by somone lol.

I've never looked at Zope, but I've heard it's overkill for mid-sized projects and is sort of a beast to learn. In albatross, you just learn a few constructs and then you write your own parser for specialized functions; it can be as simple or as complex as you'd have it be. I'm a big fan.

It takes some getting used to when you first start but then Zope is so different from anything else around at the moment.

Zope is pure OOP design, you can create page templates, MySQL queries, use Python and perl scripts etc. and use them over and over with a single line.

Once you have it all set up (took me a few min on windows) you have a very easy to use interface, DTML is really simple (no harder to learn than html). When you've mastered these to things you can get a dynamic page up and running in no time. But there is still allot more to learn!

Zope is very very powerful, if you have the oppertunity it's something I would definatly suggest using .
