I can't connect through a socket...

Suddenly I got this message:
Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock'

What can I do to solve the problem?

Can you verify that MySQL is running?

I downloaded some instructions for installing and configuring MySQL. I followed those and according to those instructions, when I get a Green Light on at the end, in my PC's system tray, means that MySQL has been configured successfully and is running.

CAN that verify that MySQL is running?

If that doesn't Please give me some more easy and full instructions for configuring and CONFIRMing the connection to MySQL.

Sorry, I'm not a Windows guy so I don't know much about system trays and green lights and all that. Have you tried running the mysql client on the command line? I'm wondering if that might give you a more descriptive error than phpMyAdmin does.

wow lasse's thread got pirated =( i'm not a moderator or anything but it's recommended to post new topics in a new thread and not steal someone else's thread.

Lasse, to answer your question, you should download the zipped version of your MySQL distrubition from mysql.com (NOT the windows installer) and replace your mysql.sock file on your drive with the one from the zip package.

I could finally solve the problem. I downloaded some more instructions from the net, where I read that I must restart the Windows after installing MySQL. The rest of the steps were same, I think, but stated more easily.

So anyway, I finally installed and configured all the softwares successfually, but can't tell you with 100% assurance that where exactly the error was. But if anyone else does get this error message too, can ask me for the help.
