transfering data From oracle8i to oracle7.3.4
hi all

Is it possible to transfer data From oracle8i to oracle7.3.4?
(Higher version to lower version)

We have a main database(oracle7.3.4) running on Sco Unix.We also have
few other databases(Oracle8i) running on windows platform.We want to transfer data from oracle 8i to to our main database(oracle 7.3.4).
Is this possible ?

Good question.
I'm not going to pretend to know for sure, but here is what my opinion is.

If you are just moving data, I don't see why there would be a problem.

If you are moving objects you may see some problems... but even then there is still a good chance everything will move over with no problems.

You truly should consult the oracle manual on this one.

The Oracle de-migration of data will be a factor depending on the data set type.

for instance:
varchar- not a problem ; varchar2, however, is a new datatype in 8i, so it will not convert easily.

What are the datatypes used in the db ?
