Application Developer Opportunities at ESPN
Edge Technology Services, in cooperation with ESPN and the The Walt Disney Company, is always looking for skilled Java resources. We like to find candidates who not only are highly skilled with Software and Application Development, but also who are passionate and knowledgeable about sports. Currently these positions are all 18 month contracts with the potential right to hire. If ESPN finds someone that they really like they have the right to make them a full time offer at any time. (1) Senior Application Developer
Creation of functional and technical specifications for business requirements; development of software components, test plans and documentation in accordance with the designs and agreed Disney standards. Development of prototype software to assist with the design phase of software projects. Will also identify and investigate issues, identify root causes, and complete assigned issues within an agreed-upon timeframe.
We are moving in the direction of web based technologies as we have several systems in place in the web based technologies due to mandates imposed by our vendor systems. We need a resource that comes to the team as an expert in the technology and architecture . This will allow the team to focus on the business with a senior level contributor that will add great value to our technical solutions.
Business Card Title Senior Application Developer
Advanced interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills. Experience leading and participating in a variety of project implementations including complex and large scale projects. Senior level development experience is required. Applies effective analytical techniques to evaluate alternatives, develops recommended approach to highly complex problems, successfully executes on resolution.
Has expertise in the following
Enterprise Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) concepts
Relational Database design, Oracle 9i or above
Data modeling concepts with ORM and experience using with JPA required. SQL expertise required. Oracle experience preferred
Expertise in Spring/JavaEE frameworks
Unix /Linux experience is required
Experience with Maven, Ivy preferred
(2) Senior Java Developer/Architect
This position will need to help develop new Java projects and help the architecture team on high priority projects
Senior Java Developer/Architect We are looking for an individual that would be interested in working in a fast paced environment on with the latest Java technologies, specifically Java EE and GWT, developing new highly transactional applications and application components to support ESPNs broadcast business operations. Must have extensive experience with Java EE platform including; Enterprise Java Beans 3.0, Java Persistence API, Java Transaction API, Java Messaging Services, Web Services, Rest, and container managed security.
Hibernate/JPA - have to be very skilled
Work with DataGrid(InfiniSpan, Gigaspaces, coherence, Akiban, etc.) technologies is a big plus!
Must have excellent communication capabilities within the team.
Have they actually built new entity beans from scratch? If so, how many Entity Beans? Are they experienced with the different types of entity relationships? (expecting someone who has built a full object model).
EJB 3.0/Business Tier - How many Session Beans (or equivalent of session beans)? (expecting someone who has built many- 30+). Or how much time has been spent in the past year on these technologies?
GUI Development How many Ajax application interfaces/screens have been developed, using which Ajax library/frameworks (i.e. Dojo, Prototype, RichFaces, IceFaces, GWT)?
Web Services How many Services have been written? How many Services have been consumed?
For all above: How much time has been spent in the past year on these technologies?
(3) Senior Java Developer
Supports production engineering development initiatives. Global eMove and eSearch API's
An established professional software engineer having more than five years of experience in implementing high performance, scalable distributed web applications. Great efficiency with n-tier application design, development, architecture, maintenance and testing. Expertise in using various software tools, languages and methodologies with special expertise in Java and J2EE. Involved in all phase of the software development lifecycle from requirement gathering to testing.
Great experience specializing on Java based distributed web applications development with great exposure on full software development lifecycle.
Strong knowledge on OOP and design patterns.
Hands on experience with SQL, RDBMS and database design standards.
Solid analytical and problem solving skills.
Excellent communications skills both written and oral
Fast learner and ability and interest to master different technologies.
(4) Java Engineer II
Needed to work on front end changes required as part of SDR project.
2-4 years of experience as a Java software engineer. Front end experience is a must.
Strong understandings of core Java programming (OO design, data structures Collections API, etc)
Java Server Pages programing is a must
Capable of making updates to existing set of JSP-like templates to reflect back end / data Java API changes
Basic level of familiarity with HTML & CSS
Bachelor of Science in computer science / related major or equivalent work experience
