Question Accessing cookie value across parent and child web pages

I have a js file which has two functions for setting and reading a cookie value.

I have then created two html files (main.html and secondary.html) both using the same js file for setting and retrieving cookie values.
secondary.html file is opened from the main.html file. Now if I set the cookie value in main.html, I am able to retrieve that value when I go to secondary.html file. However, if I now set the cookie value in secondary.html file and try to retrieve that value in main.html file, I don't get the changed value from secondary.html. Instead the last value stored in the cookie when I was visiting the main.html page is retrieved.
Why is it so? How can I access the cookie value set in secondary.html from my main.html file?

i have really never come accross this problem before, you could try and set a new cookie, then with main.html, overwrite the originall cookie and delete the old/temp cookie.
