Database Security Question
I have a new database that end users can input information relatiing to a piece of equipment they have serviced, this information is stored and I produce "Service Issue" reports from it. As well, there is a "Submit" button that is attached to a macro that e-mails the newest entry to the Service Manager so he can keep up to date on any issues the techs are having. My database works great, the forms and reports work great and the e-mail "Submit" button works great.
The problem I am having is, the tech's do not have Access on their computers. So I created a Data Access Page as a user interface. The input and update work great, but the e-mail button does nothing. What step am I missing? Or can this even be done? If it can not be done this way, can I create a "Mail To" form with Front Page (or just HTML Code) that will update my database and send the information in an e-mail to the Service Manager? IMPORTANT: The database is in a secure folder on our server. As always, thanks for any input and or suggestions. Gale "Uber Newbie" Fulton |

Gale,
You won't be able to program a Mail To button on an Access Data Page. Front Page allows a Results form to be emailed to a specific email address and will store the data in an access database table within Front Page. Additional scripting will be required to take the data from the table in Front Page and update the table in your access database. Unfortunately, I am not familiar with the type of scripting necessary to automate the process of intergration and updating between the two database tables. There are other possible solutions as well, such as XML, Excel and text files to transfer the data from the technicians computer to the main database that don't require Access to be installed on their computer. And the guys in web designing could probably offer a host of other kinds of solutions. Let me know what you finally work out. lwells |
