infopath with Access for customer/inventory/accountancy
Hello all,
I am interested in seeing whether I can use Infopath with MS Access (as data source) or even without it to create a replacement and scalable tool for all our needs: i. Customer Tracking ii. Inventory Tracking and Management iii. Accountancy Now I have read a few white papers on MS Infopath 2003 and believe it is what I am looking for. I have tons of paper trail per customer and per item and per transaction, which are all linked anyway. This is what I am looking to get rid of with Infopath. I can provide a lot more details in each category, however I would be interested in talking to some experienced programmer/designer who can possibly help me design and roll this out soon. For now I am looking for initial guidance and there will be some remuneration involved as well, if you can comprehend my need and help me get this up and running. Regards. |

Hi abhic
InfoPath is a great forms tool, because is supports a variety of programming languages and types of databases. All of which makes InfoPath a great tool for building forms when you already have your database created and do not wish to replace or convert it. In addition, standard programming languages can be used, rather than using the Access forms and learning VBA. I had looked at InfoPath, but opted to stay with the Access Forms, as this was a new database rather than an existing one so it just made it easier to stick entirely with Access. Forms are only one segment of your overall application design. The final decision will be where you have your current database stored and what methods you want to retrieve and display the data. But to answer your initial question, yes InfoPath will work with Access tables and queries. lwells |

Hello lwells,
Thank you for the reply. I am glad to see the feedback. I am thinking this is what I can do: i. create tables in a new Access DB ii. Map db to a network dir iii. create forms in Infopath to use db and put in record after record during the day (this has a number of levels of information and times of insertion, to be discussed later) iv. Use Access to compile or manage data later v. Can I use Infopath to manage the data and see status of certain forms/customers or do i need to startup Access? I am using Ms Windows XP Home networked. one running MS Office (no Access, but 1 Infopath) and the other running Ms Office Enterprise 2003. Should I contact you on pm to continue this chat further? This is of serious importance to me & I would really appreciate the help. Regards. |
