function inside a trigger (SQL 2000)

Hello,

I was wondering if someone had an example of how to create a trigger with a function inside.

Basically my trigger checks the TO and FROM columns for invalid email. Currently my trigger replicates the invalid characters for each TO and FROM. I would like to have one function that contains the invalid email characters.

An example would be greatly appreciated,
