location sql server browse list

Hi all,

i have an problem on witch i'm pretty stuck.
In my LAN there are a lot of SQL servers
and there are some workstations that have
an msde installation. Some of these workstations
have problems with building an SQL server browse list.

When using this option in the enterprise manager or query analyzer the program
closses without an error.
(path in the query analyzer: File / connect / then after the
combo box the button " ...." )

I cannot find anny info if the sql server browse list is storred
on your computer, because if that is i could try to delete this.
The only thing where i can think of causing this problem
is because a lot of computers changed names.

This is also on new installed computers.

Annyone got idea's / directions to look for ?

as far as i know, the browse list comes directly from the client network utility, where you set up the aliases for the various sql servers you would like to connect to.

But if you are in a LAN connected environment, you could connect to all the servers using the server's name or ip address, and the port (if it is diffrent from 1433), and uid/pwd

same goes for internet SQL servers, if the firewall on the sql server side allows this.
