Hi,

Just wondering if you could get some performance numbers onf MySQL v. 4 as this is supposed to be new and improved. Great article though, didn't know of the 8k limitation in PostgreSQL which will stop me from using it now!

Firebird

I do not understand why the Firebird database is not used for these tests. It has everything that Postgres has (foreign keys, stored procedures, views, etc.) with speed similar to MySQL. Plus, it's 100% free like Postgres; unlike MySQL, and it has a 15 year history of being rock solid since it is the code from Interbase.

Thumbs down This is a very old article....... useless

Yup here it is. http://www.phpbuilder.com/columns/tim20000705.php3

This is a cool site, good info, but this is pretty sad to dredge up content this old. Posting this as current info almost seems like propaganda against MySQL. Tim seems a straight up guy, and I'd love to read this same story done with current versions of both the DB's in the original article, but this is
