Hi,
I am trying to evaluate MySQL vs PostgreSQL for an ecommerce site hosted on redhat, I've been told that PostgreSQL is much better for reliability, and functions (stored procedures, triggers etc) and also noticed an article on phpbuilder.com where PostgreSQL works faster then MySQL, which I found very suprising, just wondering if anyone had any experiences or views on which is the best database to use for an ecommerce situation, speed, reliability are the main issues, I've also heard rumours about losing data with MySQL? Another issue, is that I may be forced to seek an external hosting source, but cant find any hosts that support Java & Postgre SQL, anyone know of any? any comments would be appreciated, thanks. |

Morefire,
You may want to check out this host... If I'm not mistaken, they list support for Java in one of their high-end plans: http://www.pghoster.com

i prefer postgresql
It depends on the size of your page. MySQL is faster.... PostgreSQL is more reliable. Personally i use PostgreSQL when we have complex queries or a high volume transaction.

I've always found mysql to be sufficient but have never heavily investigated postgres. What investigation I have done of postgres hasn't convinced me that the benefits gained from a switch merit all the conversion I'd have to do.
