I read up on it as well... I saw the posting on the PHPDeveloper site...

It sounds interesting... Although I haven't looked into actually taking the course yet...

the core portion looks fairly straight forward. I think I may give it a shot, then do some studying for the pro cert.

according to the site the core is $250(us) and the Professional is currently $150 but will probably go up once they decide it is no longer a Beta.

The Core test, if i read it (and remember since I looked at it 9 hours ago)correctly is on data Entry and retreval and basic maintenance of a database and some generic info about MySQL

The Professional is on installing mySQL and configuring it and all the detailed info on maintaing MySQL on your server.

That doesn't sound to bad actually... The core exam doesn't sound too difficult... Of course, I would brush up on my skills before taking it, but for $250, it's not bad at all...

I know the Oracle certification exams are disgustingly expensive...

My company had me take the tests last week, they're both obscenely easy =( It's like old MCSE tests for NT4.0... just textbook run of the mill simplicity

crazytrain81,

any chance you remember any questions?
or at least something similar?

for example, the questiong that was so easy it made you chuckle... or one of the harder questions that perhaps... or was it like the college exams with questions designed to trick you into picking wrong answers

CHornJr,

did you find it as easy as crazytrain did? or was there some questions you struggled with? (please be honest ;-)

also, in response to ct81's mention of "obscenely easy"

i just read a note on mysql's page that reads:
The Core Certification Exam is hard, but very fair.” (Not everyone passes MySQL Certification exams)...

lots of questions with example tables and a query, and what results you would get, mostly using joins and built in functions. very few uses of variables or udfs. lots of petty questions about command line options for mysql / mysqldump / mysqlimport. on the administrative side, many questions about permissions... "what if..", questions about optimizing, maintaining, and backup/restore of databases. also questions about installation options and configuration. if you work with mysql in a live environment on a daily basis, the tests will be very simple.

I'm inclined to think people who just program simple php/mysql apps without complex queries and without any mysql administration will have more time answering the questions.
