mysql chat script problems

i wrote a little chat program from somebody here in devArticles really nice but 1 problem i want to know how i can make a side frame so that it shows who is in the chatroom and a way to clear the chat text from mysql once everyone has left the chatroom
would appreciate any help i can get and please don't think i know what i am doing I DON'T hahahhaah so keep it basic for me thank you if you want to see the chat script just click

basically when someone closes the window you need to run a php script that deletes the user from the database

just with javasript or somthing
