Mysql & PHP 5 not married anymore?
I've just read that PHP 5.0 is now release as beta and available officiallly for download.
I also notice that php will no longer bundle the MySql client libraries due to certain restrictions in the MySql licensing.

Forgive the ignorance, but why is it a good thing ? I thought that the two technologies worked well together, and the integration made for a rather shallow learning curve when it comes to getting up to speed with web app programming. Just curious... |

This really is bugging me. And what is bugging me more is that they have bundled SQLite, whatever the hell that is. mySQL is clearly a much better known database. It leads me to ask, is there some sort of under the table deal going on here?

Its a good thing as it will force people to download and install the modules; hence the learning experience. |
