Hello Rod!
First, to start, you should get a copy of MySQL at www.mysql.com and a copy of PHP at www.php.net

They have program versions for both linux and windows, so your OS will not be a problem.

Also, get the MySQL PDF documentation at MySQL website. It will be a good start to learn it and have a reference in the future. PHP also had a PDF version but now it doesn't anymore, but I think that they have in other formats.

If you're running windows, you can use PWS (for Win98 and Millenium), IIS (for WinNT, Win 2000 or Win XP) or use Apache (all Windows).

This should be a good start. Get them, install and post more messages and I'll be glad to help you.

As ramz said, your going to need a server with php and mysql installed. I have written an article on this for beginners that you may find useful.
