Removing .tmp Files

Hi guys,

Can anyone help me with removing .tmp files - they're located in a hidden file called Temp - the 4 largest ones are around 3Gb in size each, haven't a clue how they got there - they were all created December 03 so they may have came with the computer - they have the name hpg followed by a 2-digit number. Does anyone know what uses these files and will deleting them cause any adverse effects?
