Have you considered downloading and installing an existing forum? I've found phpbb to be pretty good, though not as full-featured as the forum here (which I believe costs money). There's another thread around here somewhere directed toward somebody who wanted to build his own forums, and the concensus among the experienced developers was that he shouldn't bother reinventing the wheel.

Especially if you are, as you say, just beginning...
I don't think anyone is really looking for a square wheel when there are perfectly good round ones, with tires and brakes, available.. :-)

For a very basic forum check out www.webmonkey.com and look in their php section. Its hideous, uses register globals and wouldn't exactly be great to build on but will give you a good start at least.

Yeah, as kode_monkey suggests, you should look into an existing tutorial rather than asking an individual to help. Nobody's got time to help you do the work from scratch, but if you take a stab at it after reading a tutorial, there are plenty of us who would be glad to help out with a few specific problems.
