I don't see PHP files being parsed

i se the default viewer instead
it shows the php of the file with the $hello World. But nothing as a n only file saying Hello World . At one time it did show Hello World being parsed. But i must have downloaded different versions and made a big mess on my computer. I know have Apache Groups/Apache 2 on as my webserver.i have installed php 4 times it seems. My Apache web server is showing. I even tried to configure from the Apache website using their commands.
except i don't see PHP as being parsed to show helo world in my webs browser Is there some goof i did. Or something worng.

It says i have to manually configure my web server using the management console. I am using Windows 2000. So i write click on computer and hit manage.

Is this my machiane that i have to configure. '
do i go to the php via the manager HKEY that stuff.

Is there a way to get my web browser to parse my PHP
I have Apache on so i have an Apache Server.
Geez I am learning. Are there any good boks that give people a basic understanding. of hwo to configure their machines to parse PHP through their browser

yes i put the proper lines into the conf file in Apache.

I have 2 versions of Apache files. I had 2.0 and it woulnd/t work so i installed 1.3

I saved my files in the same directory as hpttd. Actually in the folder. I can't see Apache parse the file. I have the ability to see URL and see that i have installed apache.

But i don't see the file such as URL txt
and i installed this extension

Actually the page i get is this
If you can see this, it means that the installation of the Apache web server software on this system was successful. You may now add content to this directory and replace this page.

Seeing this instead of the website you expected?
This page is here because the site administrator has changed the configuration of this web server. Please contact the person responsible for maintaining this server with questions. The Apache Software Foundation, which wrote the web server software this site administrator is using, has nothing to do with maintaining this site and cannot help resolve configuration issues.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Apache documentation has been included with this distribution.

You are free to use the image below on an Apache-powered web server. Thanks for using Apache!
