Hi!
Well I have just successfully installed php gtk. I was just wondering one thing. It is a command line tool..firstly..second the source code is visible to ppl I give the code to rite??? Let's say I develop an application that connects to my Mysql server on the internet and does the alterations but what abt the source code ... the application that I develop and distribute to ppl. They can view the source code rite? the database login details and stuff.... How can we overcome this problem..? Best Regards, Dhaval Desai http://www.netage-me.com |

There was a tool (now vanished from the internet) capable of turning PHP-GTK scripts into .exe binaries. Unfortunately thats vanished now but with Zend 2 on the horizon, PHP-GTK should get a big boost so may be it will return. For now you'll have to give people the source code.

Hello everybody!
I was thinking....is it really worth leraning Php Gtk..and develop some Gui based applications? I am a php developer and I was just thinking of making some Gui Applications. Is Visual Baisc a better choice because I will be new to both Vb and Php gtk anywayz.. Thank you Dhaval |

If you know PHP, it will take you under a day to get your first PHP-GTK app running. But in general, PHP-GTK has a long way to go before it's a solid as alternatives such as C++, VB, .NET or even Java for that matter. I wouldn't recommend it for anything more than simple apps right now and perhaps that's the way it will always be for PHP-GTK. |

Dhaval,
Harry's right, if you're already familiar with PHP, your learning curve will be simple. I would suggest giving it a try, and see how far you can get before deciding on an alternative.

Hi!
Well I have decided to continue with php gtk, but I still have 1 question. Will this continue? I mean to say will Php Gtk keep getting better or they will stop making any new versions of it...Are people using it..anywhere? Thanks Dhaval |

Dhaval,
I can't say for sure whether it will keep getting better or not, but once thing I see from visiting the PHP-GTK site is that new apps are being added on a regular basis. Some of these apps are useful little tools! I would check out the resources page on the GTK site and follow-up from there. |
