Php read folder contents and save in sql db

I have a folder (userdocs) on my webserver with ca 100 files of different sorts (uploaded by me and my users). Now I want to automatically create a table in my sql database where filenames, sizes, types, uploader signature, etc is stored. This should be done automatically everytime the webserver folder contents (files) changes is updated. Then I want to call upp this info on a page (I solved that part) but also have an update-button so that everything is handled with one button click (after users have uploaded files to the webfolder). I have som basic skills in sql and php. If you post code, please be quite specific. Any ideas?

Thanks!
