web spider in PHP (or something else)?

I have a programming background but havent done much in the last few years, so pardon my ignorance.

Now, I was wondering if anyone around here knows of some sort of tutorial or instructions somewhere on building a simple web spider. Optimally, this would be in PHP because Ive been using PHP recently and am familiar with it. But I understand another language may be much better for this.

All I need is to scrape fairly well structured information off the search results (spread over several results pages) on a web site.

Any ideas? I will really appreciate any help or suggestions.

Thanks

Joe

A highly good library for this sort of thing in PHP is SNOOPY.

If the is for getting results from google, you could use Google API/Webservice.

Hope that helps...
