Any opinions on search engine submission?
Just wanted to get people's opinions on search engine submission.
-Are the free tools that are offered on sites (20 submission for free) adequate. -Is it a waste of money to pay for search engine submission? -If I have good meta tags is all of this really even necessary? I think it is money well spent. If you don't have much of a budget then I think the free submission will do the trick. If you do have a pretty deep budget then I would have to say to go with the paid submission.

When we started devArticles.com about a year ago, we only used free listings, but submitted them manually. Now if you search for any programming related term then we come up in the first 3 results for pretty much everything.
The key is getting the proper spread of keywords throughout your site, AKA keyword density. Being listed in search engines is good, but link swaps (we have over 3,000 sites that link back to us) help as well.

Very good. What about meta tags? I always see different things from different people concerning the length of the different tags. I have one person telling me that there should be no more than 200 characters for keywords and another telling me 1200 characters. That gets a little bit confusing for me.
