Adware/Spyware?

I realize I've likely been living under a rock when it comes to this type of technology. And I found your article VERY interesting and the concept of KlipFolio intriguing. However, it has been my experience with anything that I would consider a "call back" to the original website spyware or adware. I'd love to try it, but am very cautious about having call backs from my network computers that are connected the Internet. How does this desktop notification work with firewalls? How do I know what it is sending out, if anything -or- bringing in? Also, I looked at the KlipFolio site only briefly, and it says you have to pay a minimum of $1200+ month to be a content provider with them. Is your article the instructions on how to work around this and provide these klips without going through the KlipFolio site? Sorry for the newbie questions, but for someone who is very new to XML, PHP, RSS, etc. the whole concept it is a bit confusing.

No problem... I can understand your concerns. You can't trust much these days... But as far as the privacy issues (spyware/adware) are concerned, the only thing I can tell you is that on the Serence website, they explicitly state:

Quote:
Does KlipFolio contain any 'spyware' or 'adware'?
No way! It's neither our style nor part of our business model to compromise the privacy and trust of our users by attaching garbage to KlipFolio.

I would also suggest emailing their support department to see the response you receive.

Also, I'm running behind a firewall, and I don't seem to have any problems with update notifications.

As for the service fee: yes, there are fees; however, there are none for having a basic Klip. The fees are for advertising your Klip on the KlipFarm (directory), as well as having your Klip bundled with the KlipFolio installation.

Serence also provides some enterprise services, which as far as I know, have fees associated with them as well. But as far as having a basic Klip, there are no fees.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask... I'm more than happy to answer them for you! Hope this helps!

Well, that's the beauty of it... Depending on how your script is created, you only need to do it once... Your PHP script will grab the information from your database, and will create the file needed for the Klip to retrieve the article titles.

Let me know if this helps...
