I agree that the description meta tag is important, as you want as far as possible to be able to control your site's description in search engine results. However, there have been a number of recent articles that have suggested that the meta keywords tag is dead. According to Danny Sullivan at SearchEngineWatch.Com, Inktomi is the last major crawler to still support the keywords tag. See his article on the Death of a Meta Tag.
